Hi
Not much to report from the last couple of weeks. Did 54 hours at work
last week, but only 30 this week, and the unpredicatability of the pay
is adding stress to my life, especially since there's virtually
nothing in the way of excess cash in our current sitaution. A slow week
translates directly into financial hardship. So, once again, I'm giving
some thought to jumping ship to something with better pay and steadier
hours. It's a constant dilemma, since in many ways I hate change, and I
like my current work environment. Plus, at this point I'm most likely
going to be jumping once again into something I don't plan to pursue as
a career, which is tough -- I feel like I'm treading water, and maybe
even losing valuable time...Haven't made much progress on the apartment lately. During the busy
week at work I was only getting home at 8 or 9 in the evening, too
tired to tackle any painting. We've decided that we're going to take
the color we were going to use on the living and use it in the kitchen
instead, and use a sort of cafe-au-lait for the living room. There's
still plastering to be done in the bedroom, as well as hiding the new
cable wires behind the baseboard mouldings, and then a bunch of paint.
The bathroom's the furthest along, needing only a final coat on the
ceiling to make it complete. Still not sure how we're going to be able
to put up our posters and paintings, since the walls are made of cement
board and can't be thumbtacked, but I'm brainstorming a few different
ideas. The other thing I'm excited about is a concert I'm hoping to attend on my birthday. It's John Renbourn, one of the world's top acoustic guitar players, performing in a tiny venue that seats only 35 people. Byron
and I saw him in London back in 2000 and it was a mind-boggling show.
All the tickets are sold, but they said they're most likely going to
open up a few extra standing room spaces, hence my suspense. I really,
really, really want to get tickets, but I'm trying not to get my hopes
up. The show is on my birthday (Sept. 17th), so I'm hoping I can use
that fact to aid in my sweet-talking
Speaking of music, I finally set up a site where some of my
non-Ticklish-Brother music can be listened to. While the majority of my
songs are intended as Ticklish Brother
material, I also enjoy playing traditional music, and I do write the
occasional instrumental piece. This new site makes those available to
anyone who might happen to want to take a little listen. There are
three pieces there at the moment -- a clarinet instrumental take on Amazing Grace, a British traditional song called Love Is Teasing, and
an instrumental of mine called Trance Build, which is my first
experiment with mixing computer-generated and acoustic sounds. If you're interested, check out the new site at http://www.soundclick.com/justinburnett and let me know what you think.Well, that's it for now. Hope you're all doing well. Thanks for dropping by.
Take care

Best of luck getting the concert tickets!
I can certainly understand the financial stress. MArv finishes school on Friday, and the EI runs out two weeks after that. Still no job on the horizon. *sigh*
Well, I'm off to see if your music can perk me up.
Hope you get to go to the concert.
You know that I can't eat any form of chicken from fast food places anymore after reading your chicken mcnugget story a while back???
Ah, the struggle for the legal tender.
It's a real pity that I am not able to download those mp3s..i am a real sucker when it comes to new forms of music and wild mixes. i'm sure they sound great.
good luck with getting hold of those tickets!
Took a listen to your songs--Really enjoyed "Love is teasing". Very catchy melody. And you play a pretty damn good clarinet as well...
Good luck geting the tickets to the show you want to attend. Hopefully things will work out..
escher!
Good luck getting into the show! I hope you get the tickets or you could just bust in
For posters, not framed things, there is this blue colored sticky stuff. Looks kinda like gum. I remember using it years ago in the college dorms when we weren't allowed to tack/nail anything and it worked fairly well.
One of the rooms in our new place has these weird cement walls, I wonder if it's this board stuff you're talking about as well. I've never seen it before (and I can't imagine why someone would have made the walls like this)
I just went and listened to all of your songs on both sites. I really liked your jazz rendition of Amazing grace...reminded me of the deep south on a hot july day, one where old women sat in rocking chairs on old wide porches, lemonade in pitchers, fans in hand.
thank you for sharing:)
I listened to the three songs on your non-Brothers site and was pleased with what I heard. Your voice is clear and pleasant and you have good enunciation, all features often lacking in much popular music. Your instrumentals show care, skill and inventiveness. Trance Build, while starting slowly, did build to a satisfying conclusion. Altogether, a good showpiece.
oh yes oh oh
I think it sucks! No, it blows.
No wait, it blowsucks.
I think it's absolutely the worst thing ever...
that I haven't gone and listened to your music yet. I'll go give it a listen, though I feel it will be mostly things I've heard over the phone. Good stuff.
Hope you get to see John again.

My interests in music are far ranging. Classical, avant-gaude, jazz, world, rock, punk, even some easy listening
Let me be the first to say....HAPPY BIRTHDAY!! I hope you get to see the show.
hey man, i'm sorry its been so long since ive contacted you..so much to tell you about, so little time..but i'm sorry about your financial troubles - believe me, i'm in the same boat. 17 years old, and $2000 in debt. but hey, i think ican scrape together a couple hundred dollars in extra cash if you need it; i mean im sure you have a much smaller scope of people to fall back on for money than i do, seeing as how i still live with my parents..but yeah, catch me online sometime, or call my cell (i have free long distance): 1-615-653-3462. not sure what time zone youre in, but try not to call between 7.45am-3.45pm central time, i'm at school those hours. alright man, keep keepin' in touch..
love, michael
