Something from a reply to the fabulous Billy81, who has finally rejoined us here in the Xanga world.

There's definitely a place for art in the world today. Probably more so than in times of calm. Art springs forth out of discomfort and the longing for change. it seems to me that these are times to long for change. Stasis breeds bad art.
Art helps people to crystallize their thoughts and feelings about these huge events. It served as a lens which focuses attention on the telling details of the situation, and helps to broaden the mind to be able to encompass new solutions.
That's how I feel about all the different forms of creative expression. I've worked with many of them, and I've come to understand the tremendous power and potential contained within them, if they are executed with skill and wisdom. But that's the catch. The artist has to know what he/she is doing, or they can bring things about which they would never intend...
But more on this topic later...
Take care
